Walkerton will soon have a new OPP building for the South Bruce detachment.
Councillor Charlie Reidl tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the official announcement was made at last week’s AMO Conference.
The Walkerton project is one of 16 build projects that will take place across Ontario in the upcoming year.
Reidl — the Chair of the Police Services Board — says it has taken 3 years of lobbying and two years of planning to get the new home.
Reidl says the project a now must — and it’s a matter of health and safety.
He says the current building was designed for 17 officers — and NOT the 35 that are currently housed there.
The new office will be similar to the Wiarton OPP detachment but a little larger.
The new OPP office will be located on a 3 and a half acre parcel of land located on the corner behind the Walkerton TSC store.
Work will get underway this Fall.
