The MPP for Huron-Bruce has come out in support of a new regulatory proposal under the Green Energy Act that would strictly limit wind turbine development around the Great Lakes.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is inviting public comments on a proposal that would curtail development of wind projects in environmentally-sensitive areas as well as areas of intensive commercial fishing activity, recreation and navigation.
The proposal was posted on the MNR website on August 18th and you can comment on it either in writing or on-line until October 4th.
Carol Mitchell is also pushing for extension of public comment on a June proposal that would keep offshore wind developments to a minimum of five kilometres from Great Lakes shorelines.
The Ministry is putting existing applications for offshore wind developments on hold until the regulations are finalized.
