It is highly unlikely — that South Bruce Peninsula council will hire a judge to investigate a closed door meeting held last September.
Councillor Art King wanted a probe launched into the September 22nd meeting of council, after Ontario’s Ombudsman Andre Marin found “a supposed breach of trust” by members at that meeting.
Marin feels council violated the Municipal Act by voting to remove the Mayor from the former CAO negotiating team.
At the South Bruce Peninsula Committee of the Whole session on Tuesday — the issue was the source of some heated debate.
Several motions were presented and defeated — with the last motion being that all members of council would be included in a judges investigation.
Councillor Dan Kerr says that last motion was defeated 5-3 and he is fairly confident it will also go down to defeat at the next council meeting next Tuesday.
Kerr says one of the biggest concerns over having a judge investigate the operation of council — is the cost.
An estimate at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday showed South Bruce Peninsula Council was looking at a 1.3 million dollar bill if they went ahead.
