Two new Family Health Teams have been announced in the region — in Hanover and Kincardine.
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the Family Health team in Hanover will provide over 13,600 patients with greater access to family health services.
The Family Health Team in Kincardine will cover over 92 hundred patients.
Health Minister Deb Mathews says 30 new Family Health teams are being established in the province.
It is expected that once all 200 teams are operational, they will provide access to primary care for more than three million Ontarians.
Family Health Teams are made up of a team of doctors and other healthcare providers such as nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and dietitians all working together.
Lead Physician for the Hanover Family Health Team, Doctor Nick Abell, says the new Team is an exciting opportunity that will offer more comprehensive services to the patients of Hanover and area.
The total number of family physicians in Grey County increased by over 25 per cent between 2003 and 2009.
