Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller is going postal over some changes being made to rural mail delivery.
Miller says Canada post now requires that rural residents must include their 911 emergency number as part of their mailing address.
He says if the 911 number is not included on the address, they the mail is returned to sender.
Canada post is giving rural residents just one year to inform all their contacts that their address now requires the emergency number.
Miller feels that is too short a time line and would like to see Canada post allow rural residents more time to adapt to this change.
He says it will be a monumental task for people to notify all their friends plus business and government contacts that they now need to include the 911 number on their address.
He says for Canada Post employees not to deliver mail with the correct address except for the emergency number is nothing more than mean spirited.
Miller says he is concerned that if the post office strictly enforces this policy, many people may never get notices about their insurance or get their bills or other pieces of mail.
