The first full day of the 35th annual Summerfolk Festival begins today.
The music and craft festival got underway Friday night with a packed crowd in the amphitheatre to watch to music on the main stage.
One of the main acts that opened the Festival was “Artisan” from the United Kingdom.
Hilary Spencer, Brian Bedford and Jacey Bedford say they love coming to Summerfolk because it gave them their first introduction to North America.
“Artisan” first performed in Owen Sound in 1994 and they are making their fourth visit this year.
Jacey Bedford says Summerfolk was an enormous revelation to music in North America.
She says Summerfolk is also a lot larger than many of the music festivals in England.
But Bedford says the crafts, foods and music workshops also make Summerfolk standout from the rest.
Bedford says whenever they do come to Summerfolk, they try to enjoy what Grey Bruce has to offer — including shopping and in particular, the Keady market.
“Artisan” is one of more than 50 musical acts at Kelso Beach Park this weekend.
Saturday’s lineup includes musical performances, dancing, workshops and games that begin at 11 AM.
The music on the main amphitheatre stage will resume from 6 PM to 11 PM.
The Down by the Bay stage will be open from 7 PM to 1 PM.
There are also over 40 craft booths and dozens of food booths.
There are also about 700 volunteers working at Summerfolk this weekend.
