A 25 thousand dollar grant from the Ministry of Health Promotion will help Sheatre Education Alternative Theatre roll out about 25 shows about teen dating violence and abuse.
Sheatres professional crew will deliver its “Far From the Heart” to students in Grades 7 through 12 in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
Each performance will conclude with an audience discussion about aggression and violence in teen dating that will be led by trained counselors.
Artistic director Joan Chandler says the show will be a great way of looking and tackling a difficult issue.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch was in Owen Sound on Monday to present the cheque to the Sheatre crew.
The program will include class work to help students integrate what they have seen and learned about the subject of dating violence, and eventually help them recognize the red flags of physical, emotional and verbal abuse.
In May 2011 the show will go on tour, visiting places in northern Ontario, such as Timiskaming, as well as it will showcase in Toronto.
