Wightman Telecom is expanding its fibre optic cables to Hanover.
Company Vice President Rob Figliuzzi calls it the next generation in bandwidth technology.
The fibre to the home network will involve installing fibre optic cables throughout the town to all interested residents and businesses.
Currently the town is outfitted with copper lines and a coax cable system which provides residents and business owners with 5 to 15 megs of service.
Figliuzzi says with fibre optic cables the possibilities are endless.
With a minimun 20 meg capacity and the ability to boast thousands of megs if needed he says fibre optic cables really are the future of communication technology.
Wightman has already outfitted Mount Forest, Harriston, Listowel and Palmerston with fibre optic cables.
Figliuzzi says these same four communities have been ranked as four of the fastest in Ontario.
He says offering the service to Hanover makes good sense to Wightman Telecom.
He says Hanover has been good to Wightmans over the last six years since it came to town and it wants to give back.
The actual installation of the fibre optic cables will not occur until 2011 and will be complete over a two year period.
Hanover officials are eager to get the project underway, they say it will provide increased service to residents and businesses owners at no cost to the town.
