Efforts by a group of Simcoe and Grey County parents to get Wi fi Internet transmitters out of their children’s schools are gathering momentum, even though school is out for the summer.
The Collingwood and Meaford Safe School committee are bringing in an expert on microwave radiation to talk about the effect it can have on children.
That talk will take place this afternoon at 4 PM and again at 7 PM at the Thornbury Library.
Susan Clark is an public health scientist from Harvard and says there is a lot of research out there showing that in fact wi fi radiation is not as benign as many people believe.
She says continued exposure to this type of radiation can have a negative impact on the child’s health and learning abilities.
Angela Klein’s children attend a Meaford elementary school that has wi fi and says last year the parents council asked the school board to turn off transmitters which they did not do.
Rodney Palmer of Collingwood says there have been numerous reports of children experiencing all sorts of problems ranging from chronic headaches, difficulty sleeping or concentrating to developing erratic heart rates.
He says once the children are away from their wi fi equipped school for some time, the symptoms disappear.
Palmer says the Simcoe County Board of Education also has refused to turn off the Wi fi transmitters and refuses to even meet the parents to talk about the issue.
The special wi fi information session will take place at the L.E. Shore Memorial Library in Thornbury Wednesday afternoon at 4 PM and again at 7 PM in the evening.
