The Habitat for Humanity Re Store is taking over the collection of e-waste in Walkerton.
Mayor Charlie Bagnato calls it a win – win situation since the partnership will not cost the municipality any money.
Brockton is providing its MTO shed free of charge — and in return, Habitat For Humanity will be responsible for the utility costs.
Under the agreement residents will be able to drop off their e-waste at the depot free of charge every Saturday from 9 AM till Noon.
Habitat for Humanity plans to use some of the e-waste to stock their local ReStores.
The rest will be shipped off to Toronto, a government grant program will provide Habitat with about 165 dollars per ton.
Last year over 100 thousand pounds of ewaste was collected in Brockton.
Bagnato notes not only will it divert ewaste from our landfills but also promote and support local ReStores.
