Owen Sound residents are being encouraged to sign up to try and reduce their electrical consumption.
The City is taking part in the provincewide Power Pledge Community Challenge.
The municipality that signs up the highest number of residents per capita will be rewarded.
Owen Sound Environmental Superintendent Chris Hughes says the winner will receive up to 10 thousand dollars towards a solar installation on a municipal building.
He says the second part of the competition happens on August 11th, when businesses and residents in the city are encouraged to turn off everything they can to reduce electricity consumption between 8 AM to 8 PM.
The municipality that has the largest reduction electrical use for that period wins the second part of the challenge which Hughes says is bragging rights.
Hughes notes last year — Owen Sound did not do so well in either signing up residents or cutting down on power consumption.
Hughes says right now the city is currently ranked 18th in the standings.
