We’re into the final hours of the 27th annual 98 the Beach Chantry Chinook Classic.
The annual fishing derby wraps up on Sunday.
Upwards of 125 thousand dollars in prizes will be awarded; in fact the person with the heaviest salmon will walk away with 12 thousand dollars.
If the last two digits of that winning weight match a predetermined number in an envelope — the lucky angler will win an additional cash prize of 50 thousand.
There are also prizes for the heaviest trout and for junior anglers.
Craig Wilton of Mount Bridges has the largest salmon so far at 17.92 pounds.
Jason Schwindt of Kitchener has the trout lead – at 14 and a half pounds.
All weigh stations close at 12 Noon Sunday with closing ceremonies starting at 1:30 PM at the Tiverton Community.
This year the border was expanded to include parts of Georgian Bay, and not just along the Lake Huron Shoreline.
Proceeds from the derby are directed to the Lake Huron Fishing Club, primarily to the Fish Hatchery.
