If you thought sand castles were just for kids and their pails — think again.
Sandfest is going on all weekend long in Sauble Beach — and the town is expected to grow to almost 30-thousand people for the weekend.
Events Co-ordinator Shane Sargent says the main event — and where the name stems from — is the sand sculpting competition.
These aren’t your everyday sand castles.
Sargent says there are some sculpture artists participating that actually do this for a full time profession and it takes the festival to the next level to have these participants.
The sand sculpting takes place today along the main beach.
Sargent is pleased to say Sandfest made the top 100 festival list in Ontario last year and has grown from one day to three days this year.
Being in its 14th year — Sargent says one of the most popular things people come to see, and one of the original events, is the huge car show.
The show stretches along the main beach and features over 400 cars.
Then there is the main stage on the beach as well with The Caverners and Glen Aitchinson – Elvis Impersonator.
And Sunday has a Country Concert with Tommy Gilham and Jamie Warren.
Sargent is also excited to introduce the pairing of Sandfest with the family channel this year.
Kids can get pictures with their favourite characters all weekend.
Sargent hopes to see the festival grow by leaps and bounds in years to come.
