A Meaford woman is planning on embarking on the trip of a lifetime.
Maggie Holmes is planning on climbing Mount Everest in March 2011 in memory of her son Ryan who committed suicide four years ago after suffering from schizophrenia.
Holmes is aiming to raise almost 30 thousand dollars to go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association ($29,035).
That would be 1 dollar for every foot high of Everest.
Holmes is currently walking 40 kilometres a week in preparation of the climb.
Holmes describes her son Ryan as very loving and caring.
She brings this up to dispel the myth that those dealing with schizophrenia are scary individuals.
Holmes says dispelling the myths and raising awareness to the disease is one of the reasons why she is attempting the climb.
Holmes says Ryan — who died at the age of 20 — was in the process of starting to establish his own clothing company.
Holmes has also designed t-shirts and wrist bands with proceeds of the sale also going to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
