The first book to ever be written about Southampton’s history will be launched tonight .
Author Robin Hilborn will be on hand to launch Southampton Vignettes, which covers 200 years of history.
Hilborn moved to Southampton in 1999 to retire, and says once he started volunteering at the archives, he found plenty of information on the town’s history.
From there, Hilborn started writing newspaper columns and he decided after the town’s 150th anniversary in 2008 to compile his research into a book.
It was then that Hilborn realized he had to add more information, and more pictures.
The book includes 140 photographs, creating what Hilborn calls a book of historical photographs as much as it is about Southampton’s history.
He will be on hand tonight for the launch to give a talk and autograph copies of the book.
The official launch begins at 7:30 PM tonight at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
