Two public meetings are being held this week about a proposed wind farm project in the Arran Elderslie and Saugeen Shores area.
The Mayor of Saugeen Shores Mike Smith encourages residents to attend the meetings.
Smith says the Green Energy Act calls for mandatory public consultation but he believes these two meetings are going to be it.
He says anyone with concerns or questions should be at the meeting because this might be the only chance to voice them.
Smith says he’s upset with the lack of information made available so far, with no clear details on the exact location or timeline for the project.
A notice about the meetings states that the Arran Wind Project would be a Class 4 Wind Facility with up to 46 2.5 MW wind turbine generators.
The first public meeting is being held on Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM in the Rotary Hall at the Plex in Port Elgin.
The second goes Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM at Arkwright Hall in Arran Elderslie.
Arran Elderslie Council has passed a bylaw to control wind turbine development based on health concerns and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and Saugeen Shores Council has passed a motion in support of that move.
But Smith says Saugeen Shores is waiting for legal counsel on how such a bylaw could be enforced and also hopes to have meetings with ministers at the AMO conference.
