As Bruce Power gets set to host another open house on its steam generators plan — the company is responding to comments from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont admits their application is incomplete.
But Lamont says they are hopeful to have all the regulatory approvals in place to begin shipping 16 decommissioned steam generators to Sweden in September.
Lamont was at Owen Sound Council on Monday to listen to a presentation by Ramzi Jammal — the CNSC’s executive vice-president and chief regulatory officer.
Jammal told council that Bruce Power’s application to move the 16 generators to Sweden for recycling by way of Owen Sound and the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway is incomplete.
Jammal says CNSC staff is going over the application and will not approve it unless the commission is satisfied that all safety requirements have been met.
He also says the CNSC is not bound by a timeline.
That’s fine with Lamont — who says the company is accustomed to working alongside CNSC staff and will fully co-operate with the nuclear safety regulator.
Lamont and other Bruce Power officials will be at a second open house tonight from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
Only about 20 people attended last night’s open house in Owen Sound.
A final open house is set for Thursday from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Bruce Power Visitor’s Centre.
