Owen Sound could soon have approval to set up bike lanes on 2nd Avenue East between the Jubilee bridge and Harrison Park.
Grey County’s Transportation committee has given conditional approval to the plan which comes before County Council next week.
Owen Sound Councillor Tom Pink got the ball rolling again with a motion asking the County to reconsider its opposition to the bike lanes.
Grey County twice before has turned down the cities request to set up bike lanes along that section of road.
That section of Second Ave east is owned by the county is also called Grey Road five.
Pink says he is hoping this will be the first step in getting more bike lanes established in the city with more connecting bicycle links.
He admits the plan to set up the two bike lanes on 2nd Avenue East is not without opposition, as many residents along that section of street would see their on street parking disappear.
Pink says it’s important to change the attitude people have towards biking.
