Two young women from Owen Sound are part of a provincial Youth Advisory Panel.
24 year old Mayla Abbott and 18 year old Kristen Hazen have been chosen to sit on the special panel that is meeting in Toronto this weekend.
The Owen Sound pair joins 22 other young people from across the province to spend two days learning how governments make policy decisions.
The panelists will also develop a toolkit for involving youth in the process.
The panel is the first step toward creating a Provincial Youth Policy Framework and their recommendations will be presented to the government in the fall.
Abbott and Hazen were chosen to sit on the panel by lottery.
Earlier this summer, about 5 thousand invitations were sent to randomly selected households across Ontario.
Any 16 to 24 year old who received one was eligible to enter their name in a Civic Lottery to serve on the Youth Advisory Panel.
The Youth Advisory Panel will meet on July 24th and 25th at Artscape Gibraltar Point, Toronto Islands.
Then in August the panel members will host workshops in their home communities to talk about their experience and share their recommendations.
