The Grey-Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association has received a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Spokesperson Ruth Henrich says they received a $27,500 grant will be used to hire a volunteer coordinator.
Henrich says the association is a not-for-profit group that depends on volunteers to get their message of buying locally grown food out to the public.
She says the volunteer coordinator will create a volunteer network that will allow them to continue their work.
Henrich says the volunteers are used to man information booths at events such as Pumpkinfest in Port Elgin, or Summerfolk in Owen Sound.
She says the association’s mandate is to get more money in the pockets of local farmers and that is done through general education as to what kind of product is out there and where to get it.
Henrich says the public is buying into the concept of shopping for locally produced foodstuffs but the campaign must continue year round, not just the obvious summer season.
She says there’s been an increase in people going to local farmer’s markets throughout the region.
The Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association has over 200 members and they’re always looking for more.
