Huron-Bruce’s rookie MP is supporting his governments decision to scrap the mandatory long census.
Ben Lobb says it should be the choice of the citizen to participate in a census that asks “invasive” questions.
Lobb says some of the questions about the value or worth of a persons home aren’t appropriate and companies shouldn’t be able to access that data for free.
He says if corporations want to use information like that, they should have to pay for it themselves.
Lobb says his offices in Huron-Bruce haven’t received any phone calls from concerned citizens and he believes people aren’t really concerned with the census.
He says it seems as if the media and politicians in Ottawa have started this controversy while the people in rural Ontario are mostly concerned with their lives and spending time in the community.
Lobb says the census will now become voluntary and the government will just send out more of the forms to get back the proper amount of information they need.
He says it’s pointless to punish people who don’t have the time to fill out the very long census and it’s better for the people of Canada to have a voluntary form.
