When you head out today for a round of golf – make sure you grab your sunscreen.
The message is something that the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society is trying to make sure you never forget.
So Anne Marie Watson – Manager of the Unit says volunteers are heading out to all 34 area golf courses – to make sure golfers are sun smart.
Watson says it is a ground breaking program she came up with as she noticed while on the links golfers weren’t always taking necessary precautions against the sun.
Watson says the volunteers will be handing out sun safety score cards – posters and sunscreen samples.
Wearing a wide brimmed hat – a light coloured long sleeve shirt and wearing a sunscreen with a minimum 30 UV protection is what Watson says is your best protection.
Watson says the provincial office is looking at the results from this program as they may consider implementing it across Ontario next summer.
Watson says Bluewater is excited to be part of this pilot project.
You can expect to see the volunteers – wide brimmed hats on – on area courses throughout the summer.
