A historic treasure from Hanover’s past is back.
The Hanover Fire Department has a new or should we say ‘old fire truck’ on the road again.
It’s been a labour of love for Hanover firefighters and the Fire Fighter Association.
After a year and a half of hard work and research — Hanover’s old 1937 fire truck is again operational.
Fire Chief Ken Roseborough says it took some time to find the right parts for the antique fire fighting vehicle.
Thanks to the mechanical expertise of a few of the fire fighters, Roseborough says the old 1937 fire truck is running again beautifully.
The antique is Hanover’s second fire truck.
The first was lost in a fire when Hanover’s Fire Hall burned down in 1936. The Fire Hall at the time was located in the Town Hall basement.
Roseborough says the 1937 model actually has the pump from the original truck.
The 1937 fire truck will now be used to promote the Hanover Fire Department.
He says the general public will have many opportunities to view the truck and enjoy it.
Over the years, Roseborough says the Hanover Fire Fighter Association has put about 20 thousand dollars into the vintage vehicle.
The original invoice for the 900 dollar fire truck will eventually passed on to the Hanover Historical Society.
