Brockton Council has denied a request by the Hanover Kinsmen to declare RockFest “a community festival.”
The Community Festival status would have resulted in a lower liquor licensing costs for the Hanover Kinsmen.
But Brockton Councillor Chris Peabody feels the organizers of the event were not accommodating Brockton.
He notes that Brockton is the host site of the event, yet the funds of the bar are flowing to the Hanover Kinsmen.
Peabody would have preferred to see a partnership with a Brockton community service group so the money would also benefit Brockton organizations.
Peabody also notes Brockton owns 40 per cent of the Saugeen Municipal Airport — where the event is taking place next month.
Hanover Kinsmen Past President Greg Lansink says even without Brockton’s blessing — they will move forward.
The Kinsmen have not decided how they will spend the bar money.
But Lansink notes they are past supporters of local hospitals like Hanover, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham.
The Kinsmen are also big supporter of the Big Brothers and Sisters Organization of Hanover which covers a large area including Brockton.
RockFest takes place at the Saugeen Municipal Airport on August 27th and 28th.
