New Grey County CAO Lance Thurston likes what he’s seen In his first couple of months on the job.
But Thurston believes there is room for improvement.
To that end, Thurston has prepared a report for County Council called Early Impressions — which is designed to help the county move forward into the future.
Thurston has visited every municipality in Grey, speaking with local councils and meeting with municipal CAO’s.
Thurston has talked with community agencies and organizations, and he also conducted an anonymous survey of county employees, asking them what they like best about working for Grey and what they would like to see changed.
Thurston says the corporation is already being run very well — it’s a good employer and delivers solid services to residents of Grey.
But Thurston senses a lack of a common strategic direction, and he believes his report can serve as a framework for a multi-year strategic plan that can help to streamline the organization.
Thurston says there are better ways of providing services, and the county must find those methods.
Council will hold a special meeting to discuss Thurston’s report in detail.
The goal will be to refine the content and begin to develop the strategic plan that Thurston says is necessary.
