There were a lot of high flying kids in Bruce County this past weekend.
They were up in the air, being flown around the Wiarton area as part of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association s Kids for Aviation Program.
COPA 68 spokesperson Harold Fry says this free program is to show the children what aviation is all about and give them the experience of being the cockpit of an aircraft in flight.
He says this is to stimulate a greater awareness of aviation and local airport facilities.
Fry says a possible Canadian record was set last weekend and on June 19 for the number of children flown by the junior aviator program.
A total of 174 youngsters between the ages of 7 and 17 were taken up for 15 minute flights on those two weekends.
Fry says before the flight, the children are given a walk around outside of the aircraft to check out its parts and components, then its off for their flight.
After the flight, the youngsters are given a certificate detailing their flight and set of a gold wings.
Fry says six volunteer pilots donated their time and planes for this event.
