If you’re doing some cleaning and have some hazardous waste to get rid of, Bruce County will begin hazardous waste collection this week.
Walkerton residents can dispose of things like batteries, oven cleaners, pesticides, and propane tanks on Saturday at the Bruce County Highways Garage on County Road 2 between 8AM and 11AM.
A disposal site will be set up at the Highways Garage on Ludgard Street in Lucknow Saturday as well.
That will be open from 1 PM until 3 PM.
Hazardous materials can be spotted by their labels. They will say either corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable.
The hazardous waste days are a free way to dispose of these materials in an environmentally safe manner.
Improper disposal into drains, sewers, backyards or landfills endangers public health and contaminates water supplies and other natural resources.
More dates are scheduled throughout the month for other municipalities.
