The City of Owen Sound is looking for input into a new skateboard park.
The current facility is on leased land on the west side of the harbour, near the boat launch.
But the lease will expire next year, so the city is looking long-term to determine what kind of park users would like to see.
The city’s Recreation and Parks Advisory committee held a recent public meeting that attracted a number of people who offered their thoughts.
Generally, they believe the current park is tired and beat up, the concrete and fence are falling apart and huge puddles form when it rains.
There are a lack of ramps and jumps, which means people get bored quickly and find other places to skate.
Councillor Jim McManaman says a lot of ideas came forward about sprucing up the current park as plans for something new move forward.
McManaman is the Chair of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee.
Now an ad hoc committee of 10 to 12 people has been formed to look at the issues.
One idea is the creation of a combination skateboard/bike park.
The city has a BMX park near the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre but it doesn’t get much use and some people envision a joint facility like the one in Port Elgin.
