Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot will seek a second four-year term.
Barfoot announced his intentions on Wednesday at township council.
So far he is unchallenged for the position.
Barfoot was elected mayor in 2006 but has been a member of Georgian Bluffs council since the amalgamation of Derby, Keppel and Sarawak townships in 2001.
He was appointed to become deputy mayor in 2004 after former Mayor Larry Miller resigned upon his election to the House of Commons.
Miller was replaced as Mayor by Carl Spencer, whom Barfoot defeated in 2006.
Barfoot was first elected to municipal council in 1991 in Derby, where he served two terms as a councillor and one term as deputy reeve.
Barfoot says he’s proud of having led Georgian Bluffs through the creation of a strategic plan, which had been his goal when he first assumed the mayor’s job.
Now he’s intent on remaining at the helm as the township continues work on its first official plan.
Another ongoing accomplishment is the municipality’s plan to keep up on its road maintenance and upgrading.
That includes reducing the number of gravel roads, which the Mayor says are being upgraded with the help of a top-notch fleet of road equipment.
Barfoot is one of four members of Georgian Bluffs council to file the necessary paperwork to run in this year’s election, scheduled for October 25th.
Deputy Mayor Dwight Burley will seek another term, while councillors Tom Wiley and Ryan Thompson will run again for their current positions.
