Kincardine Council hearing more about Bruce Telecom’s plans for expansion.
A special strategy session was held last week.
Bruce Telecom CEO Eric Dobson says the five year, five-and-a-half million dollar project will provide more Internet service to more homes while increasing Internet speeds.
Eventually, he says that will allow them to expand their TV and HDTV services.
The project would be phased out over five years, with the first year costing the most at four million dollars.
Dobson says in that year, they should be able to cover off 88 per cent of the households they are hoping to reach.
He says Kincardine council currently receives 800 thousand dollars per year in dividends from the company, and after the five years is complete, he believes that will bump up to a 1.2 million dollar dividend.
At the meeting. Dobson says some councillors had questions, but most of the feedback was positive.
He says it seems both sides are on board with the plans.
Bruce Telecom will appear before Kincardine council tonight with a request for official approval of the plan.
