A decade later and a budget that has gone from two million dollars to one billion dollars.
Now Huron Bruce Conservative MP Ben Lobb says it’s time for the country to get rid of it’s long-gun registry.
The Harper government says the long-gun registry has not done the job is was intended to do.
Lobb claims that over 10 years later less then half of the guns within Canada are registered.
Bill C-68 was introduced in the mid-1990’s by then-Prime Minister Jean Chretien’s Liberal government and has been heavily debated since.
Lobb feels the money would have been best spent on officers on the streets and boarder control officers.
Before Parliament rose for the summer the parties heard from police officers along with hunters and fishers who all support dropping the registry.
Lobb says the Conservatives are hopeful the bill to drop the registry will move forward once MP’s return to the Commons in September.
