All Terrain Vehicles are not allowed in Inverhuron Park and park officials aren’t taking kindly to finding any there.
Recently several ATV operators found out the hard way with tickets being handed out that will cost the operators money.
Park spokesperson Nora Toth says they aren’t trying to curb fun at the park but no ATV signs are clearly posted around the boundary of the park.
Toth says provincial parks are set up to protect natural environments and ATV’s don’t fit in the mix.
She says the park is home to an endangered plant call “Picture Thistle” and it’s found in only two locations–Inverhuron and Pinery Provincial Parks.
In addition the local park has a lot of heritage, dating back 4,000 years when First Nation people lived on the land and then later when European villages were set up.
She says they do not want to have these things disturbed with ATV’s racing around.
Toth says unfortunately the problem is increasing even though there’s plenty of education on the rules.
She says she believes most of the local ATV operators are aware of the rules and abide by them.
The problem appears to come from visitors.
