Contract talks between Grey County and its paramedics are heating up.
OPSEU has requested arbitration on behalf of the paramedics for a third consecutive round of negotiations.
The union doesn’t like the fact Grey County has not offered a raise for the next fiscal year (2010-2011).
The County says there are no increases because of the province’s wage restraint legislation.
But OPSEU argues that does not apply to municipal employees or does it apply to employees who collectively bargain.
There are 120 full time and part time paramedics in Grey County.
OPSEU says their wages are far behind other paramedics in Ontario.
And the union will be asking a provincially appointed board of arbitration for a contract that allows Grey County paramedics to catch up financially to their counterparts.
