Douglas Bentley is Hanover’s Senior of the Year.
Bentley says the honour caught him by surprise — even though he has been volunteering for 35 years now in Hanover — and he has no plans to stop.
He is currently the treasurer of the Hanover Rotary Club, the Hanover Masonic Organization and the Hanover Happy Twirlers square dancing club.
He also remains involved with the Grace United Church and spent years serving on the library board.
Bentley calls the award something unexpected but certainly appreciated.
Bentley says his volunteer work is his way of giving back to Hanover.
Bentley moved to Hanover 35 years ago and spent a couple decades working as a Chrysler car salesperson.
Mayor Kathi Maskell calls Bentley an inspiration for us all and says she can’t think of a more worthy recipient for the honour.
