Sacred Heart School in Mildmay has won an Ontario ‘School on the Move’ award.
The elementary school is one of 25 schools across the province selected for the honour from the Ministry of Education.
The award recognizes schools that have been able to achieve and maintain high EQAO test scores year after year.
Staff from the Ministry of Education visited the Mildmay school in April and interviewed school staff and teachers, parents and students.
Several years ago — many students at the Mildmay school were struggling to reach targets in reading, writing and language development.
By May 2010 — 96 per cent of the students were meeting the Grade 3 benchmark in oral language and 88 per cent in reading and writing.
It is the first time a school from Grey Bruce has received the honour.
Now the Bruce Grey Catholic Board and Sacred Heart in Mildmay qualify for additional provincial funding.
