A unique Canada Day event happening at Grey Roots Museum outside Owen Sound.
The Moreston Village at the museum will be hosting the grand opening of their schoolhouse at 11 AM Thursday.
Community Relations Supervisor Lara Javalyn says the schoolhouse is a replica of the SS#1 Derby Schoolhouse in 1920 and will have desks from area schools from that era as well.
Javalyn says many people have helped to make this opening possible with help coming from the retired teachers of Ontario Grey Bruce Unit and retired womens teachers from the area volunteering thousands of hours.
Javalyn says the school house is as close to the original as possible with maple flooring, original desks from donors in the area and maps that are either original or replicas from their archives.
She adds the schoolhouse has been two years in the making and a lot of fundraising to add to the village that already has a blacksmith, garage and bandstand.
There will be entertainment including the Owen Sound City Band and members of the Shoreline Chorus performing at the opening.
Once open the schoolhouse will be part of their daily tours and part of their educational program as well so students can experience a one room schoolhouse.
