If you were along the beach in Southampton Tuesday — you may have seen a sailboat being towed by a Canadian Coast Guard vessel.
Goderich Search and Rescue Commanding Officer Greg Kingston says they received a call around 3:30 PM Tuesday about a boat near Tobermory that was having trouble with their engines, and couldn’t get into a harbour.
Kingston says they dispatched the CCG Discovery, and initially were going to tow the sailboat to Port Elgin.
However, he says the water wasn’t high enough for the draft of the sailboat, or for the Coast Guard boat, so they chose to take it to Southampton.
Nobody was on-board was hurt.
In fact, Kingston says he complimented the captain and his son on the excellent job they did steering the vessel.
The sailboat and it’s passengers were from Ohio.
