It’s taken several years, but a dream has come true in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores has it’s own special park.
The Rotary Accessible Playground and Bruce Power Sensory Garden in Jubilee Park was officially opened Monday morning while hundreds of excited kids and adults looked on.
Park Fundraising chair Mini Jacques says this is the day that everyone has waited for, culminating a dream begun in 2005.
The park features playground equipment that those kids with physical challenges can use as well.
At a cost of 350 thousand dollars — the park features slides, swings and climbing apparatus to name a few.
The flooring is either wood chips or a rubber fibre surfacing that gives when you walk on it.
Jacques says today is just the beginning.
She says the committee has a third phase plan they will be presenting to council down the road.
Jacques would not reveal what that plan is.
Jacques says the Southampton water tower right next to the park is also going to be sporting a new look.
She announced the Southampton Art School will be offering classes this summer that will culminate with a mural being painted on the water tower.
Besides the play equipment and gardens, the facility has a refurbished shelter where adults can watch the children and have a picnic if they wish.
Accessible parking and washrooms are part of the master plan as well.
