The G8 and G20 Summits wrapped up yesterday (June 27), but not without a fair share of controversy.
Violent protests marred the first day of the G20 summit, and left scorched police cruisers, and broken windows in Toronto’s financial district.
And Bayshore Broadcasting News wanted to know if you think the summits are useful, and if they’re even worth having.
One man said that we really don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, so it’s hard to tell if they’re worth it.
But he also said that Canada is a financial leader in the world, and having a summit like these can showcase that.
One woman did tell us that the money spent could definitely go to more worthwhile causes.
Another man said that the amount of money spent seems a bit extreme, and the fact that they built an artificial lake makes you wonder if the government has lost touch with reality a little.
79 per cent of the respondents to our weekly internet poll felt hosting the summits was a waste of taxpayer dollars.
While 21 per cent thought it would increase Canada’s profile to the rest of the world.
