The Owen Sound Rowing Club has some new equipment.
The Club has purchased three new rowing shells thanks to a 35 thousand dollar grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch says the funding will allow local rowing enthusiasts to enjoy the sport for many years to come.
The new rowing shells offer a safer and more reliable boating experience for rowers and will offer community members a greater opportunity to participate in the sport.
Club member Dennis Yurkiw says the new boats have already helped put more people on the water.
He also notes the club’s Learn To Row program has doubled in size over last year.
The LTR program is open to anyone who is interested and the club will provide training for any new members.
The club also encourages and provides financial assistance for any members who wish to become coaches.
The club has already trained 9 learn-to-row coaches.
Yurkiw says the volunteer-led group is looking to evolve so that they can be involved in provincial and national competitions.
