One Owen Sound Councillor is upset over suggestions that changes to what medical situations the fire department responds to will put local residents at risk.
Arlene Wright is one of three councillors on a special committee looking at streamlining Owen Sound fire services.
She says what they are proposing to council, is a six month trial period when the Fire service would not be dispatched to so called minor medical situations.
Wright says she takes exception to claims from the Firefighers Association that the public will be put at risk because of these changes.
She says that simply is not the case, and Firefighters will always respond to major medical emergencies whether it be a heart attack or motor vehicle accident.
Wright also says the Firefighters will respond to every single call from Midnight until 6 AM when there is only one ambulance on duty in the city and all calls where there is an unknown emergency situation.
She says the intention of these changes is not to save money and there will be no staff reductions, but simply to try and streamline the operation of the fire department.
Wright also takes exception to the somewhat alarmist tone of the Firefighters Association take on these changes saying she is somewhat disappointed in the way they presented their case.
This whole issue comes before council on Monday evening.
