The Community Foundation Grey Bruce is still giving back to the community.
The organization held its annual general meeting at Stone Tree near Owen Sound Tuesday night and handed out grants totalling 94 thousand dollars.
The recipients represented a wide range of groups and organizations throughout both Counties.
Board member Terry King also announced plans to engage more Grey Bruce municipalities through a program of matching donations to community funds.
King says it would be made possible by a bequest of over a million dollars.
Projections put the local Community Foundation’s fund at 10-million dollars by the end of 2013.
Members were also told last night the local foundation was one of only five across Canada that was able to do some granting at the height of the recent recession.
Four grants were awarded from the CFOS-Sun Times Christmas Fund.
They support student mentoring by the Hanover District Big Brothers and Big Sisters; food costs for Safe ‘n Sound’s program for the homeless; publicity for a physiotherapy program for babies in the region; and a youth literacy program.
A highlight of the evening was presentation of scholarship funds to youth from Saugeen and Cape Croker First Nations.
Most of the recipients are studying out of the area but a number were present to explain how their bursaries are helping with their education.
