The Director of Education for the Bluewater District School Board is retiring.
Mary Anne Alton will retire, effective August 31st.
Her retirement brings to an end a 39-year education career with the Bluewater board — dating back to the Grey County Board of Education.
Alton began as a Grade 2 teacher in Markdale, and has held both elementary and secondary school administrator positions before becoming Director 5 years ago.
Alton points to many accomplishment’s that de her a proud member of the Bluewater team.
She feels they had a strong focus on human rights that put Bluewater on the provincial and national map and created a better understanding of the local culture.
Alton also feels they created a relevant and engaging learning environment for students in the 21st century.
Alton adds they have strong relationships with First Nations and Metis.
Bluewater Board Chair Jennifer Yenssen described Alton as “an exemplary educational leader whose handiwork is seen all over Bluewater.”
Alton says she looks forward to spending more time with family — including a new grandson who is expected in July.
She will continue to serve as a member of the International Student Exchange Board.
