It’s good news for user groups at the Centennial Pool in Port Elgin.
Saugeen Shores Council is backing off on fee increases approved earlier this year.
Director of Community Services Mike Myatt says the new fees were scheduled to come into full effect this September but will now be phased in over 3 years instead.
Myatt says they were trying to bring their fees in line with those charged in Hanover and Kincardine.
However Myatt says user groups have complained that the increases were too steep to happen all at once.
Myatt says as an example a 6 month membership was going to go up from 200 dollars to 300 dollars this September, but will now only increase to 250 dollars.
Increases for punch cards, where you can get 10 to 20 visits per card, are also being reduced by about 10 to 15 per cent.
Myatt says council has listened to the residents and has made the increases more reasonable.
He adds user numbers at Centennial Pool are going up and council wants to
encourage that trend.
Council will review the fees and settle on the increase for next year during their annual fees review in February.
