Sauble Beach native Dave Hiscox has won Chartwell’s Senior Star competition.
The finals were held at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound Tuesday night.
The judges said it was obvious he’s played the guitar all his life and they asked him to repeat the windup to “Make the World Go Away.”
Jim Mackay of Owen Sound won the 2nd Star for a broadway hit and Gertrude Schmidt of Port Elgin won the 3rd Star for her traditional country performance.
In all, 11 seniors vied for the chance to go to Chartwell’s national final in Toronto this October.
The winner of that competition will be sent on five thousand dollar trip.
Judges Richard Knechtel of Summerfolk, Bill Henry of the Sun Times and vocal coach Tara MacKenzie praised the quality of local seniors music and the role its importance in their lives.
