Injection drug use is a sad reality in Grey and Bruce.
That’s why the Health Unit has issued a warning about what to do if we find discarded needles in or parks, school yards or beaches.
Public Health Nurse Tammy Aitken says they had about half a dozen found needles reported to the health unit last year.
They’re warning children to stay completely clear of of needles and tell and adult.
As for adults — they’re being told not to handle the needles either unless they can do it safely with gloves or tongs and dispose of it so that no one else can come into contact with it.
Aitken also says the health unit should be notified.
Infections that can be transmitted through a needle prick include HIV and Hepatitis B or C.
