Ontario’s Tourism Minister feels his government has the right plan to attract more visitors to our region.
Michael Chan tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the Liberals are committing more plans and new funding to attract more visitors.
Chan points to the 13 regional tourism organizations that will be created to market one specific area of the province.
Chan says they will spend 65 million dollars to make this plan work.
Chan says they will also spend more time and money marketing Ontario to Europe and other parts of of the world — and not just the U-S.
Stats show fewer Americans are coming to Ontario — mainly due to new passport rules and the surging loonie.
But Chan feels it will only be a matter of time before we see a spike in American visitors again because they will see the benefits of the new passport law.
Chan says they will market the province to other Ontarians because he feels the province is so large — there are many areas people don’t know about.
While more and more people are visiting southern Georgian Bay — Chan still feels it’s area for growth.
And Chan feels the Bruce Peninsula and Ontario’s West Coast remains an untapped market for visitors.
As for bike lanes on local highways — Chan is not ruling out that possibility because he feels a ‘green tourism initiative” will help attract more visitors.
