The Ontario PC Caucus is consulting with rural communities over the summer to hear about local issues and concerns.
Four area MPP’s met in Wingham Thursday with local farmers and producers to consider how the PC Caucus can help support rural and agricultural communities.
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey says the Liberal party isn’t stepping up to the plate with rural Ontario and our MPP and Agriculture Minister Carol Mitchell needs more help from her colleagues in Queen’s Park.
He says when agriculture is the cornerstone of rural communities because when farming is going well, all of the small towns do well with their economy.
Bailey says they’ll be taking the information they gather this summer back to Dalton McGuinty and the other MPP’s to make sure rural Ontario get their voices heard.
Huron County Federation of Agriculture President Wayne Black says there wasn’t a chance to really discuss the issues at hand, but their organization will try to make it clear that there needs to be a solution now.
He says Huron County is the most agriculturally focused area in the province and adding in Grey-Bruce and surrounding areas, they’re a force to be reckoned with.
Black says the economic impact that Huron County carries is two-and-a-half billion dollars, so farmers can’t be ignored
He says their issues relate closely to all aspects of rural living and must be heard.
