A lot less hair in Grey Bruce after a stellar year for Cop for Cancer shave offs that are still buzzing.
The Cops for Cancer shaveoff fundraising dollars go towards the research to fight paediatric cancer.
At the wrap up breakfast Thursday in Owen Sound — many participants, sponsors and cancer survivors gathered to hear grand totals from area shave offs.
And then the grand total that has been tallied from events so far at 190 thousand dollars.
Fundraising Co-ordinator Jenn Wright says the tallies so far have been very positive.
The Shallow Lake shave off raised 68-hundred dollars, Walkerton raised just over 54-hundred, the downtown Owen Sound shave off raised 23-thousand and Blue Mountains raised 12 thousand.
The goal for this year’s campaign is 200-thousand dollars.
Wright is very quick to add the events for the Bluewater unit are not over and a final tally won’t be available until early July.
Among the cancer survivors was Shirley MacLeod of Owen Sound.
Her co-worker Annie Hiller from Summit Place nursing home in Owen Sound grew her hair, dyed it pink, then shaved it off after raising over a thousand dollars for the cause in honour of Shirley’s battle against breast cancer.
MacLeod says the Cops for Cancer fundraisers are very touching to see people do something that drastic just to raise money — and she knows the money will help one day find a cure.
