Ontario Works caseload numbers are finally going down in Grey County.
After 18 increases in 19 months, there was a decline in April — stats show a drop from 1,433 cases to 1,406.
The numbers had climbed steadily with only one blip since September 2008.
Grey County Social Services Director Barbara Fedy says they had fewer people coming in the door over the last couple of months — but the caseload was the same.
Fedy hopes the numbers will continue to drop.
But she notes they are not expected to decrease sharply because manufacturing changes in the last few years have reduced the number of jobs available.
